Community Action Food Bank/Food Pantry

According to the Community Action of Nebraska State and Regional Report, 1 in 3 individuals reported issues with affordable utilities, food, and clothing. Food deserts continue to be a pressing need in our rural areas where there are few to no local grocery stores for a considerable distance.

With this in mind, Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska launched our Mobile Produce Pantries in Buffalo, Minden, and Phelps counties in 2018.  This initiative is in partnership with Feeding America – Food Bank for the Heartland with pilot funding support through the Walmart Foundation, the Community Services Block Grant, and Kearney Area Community Foundation.  The Mobile Produce Pantry  utilizes our refrigerated truck to travel to various communities providing fresh produce to families and seniors in need at no charge.  The Mobile Food Pantry is entirely funded through local grants and donations.  Please consider making a donation through our Paypal account by clicking on the icon in the upper right corner.

Please contact Megan at (308) 865-5683 if you have any questions.

Volunteer and community support has been essential to our success.  Each year, we average distributing over 156,000 pounds of food.  Learn more about our program by watching our agency video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD5hHP6ubXE

Food Rescue Program

Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska’s Food Bank started a Food Rescue Program to collect food from area retailers that is used by food pantries.

Thank you to the area grocery stores for their generosity in participating in the Food Rescue Program.  These donations help meet pressing hunger needs in our area and also prevents food waste.

Food Bank Success Story:

submitted by one of our customers

“I never thought that I would ever have to rely on anyone for assistance as I got older. I thought that I had provided for any expenses that I would need, however; I miscalculated health care and prescription costs when my health deteriorated after several falls. Your program gives me a sense of security that I need at this time. For most of the last two years, I have been unable to get out to drive or shop so having staples on hand is a big help. When I can’t get fresh fruit or fresh vegetables, the canned canned foods and dry and canned milk are a good source to use. I am eternally grateful for the assistance you have provided me during this period of ill health and isolation.”
